LEON BARR FAMILY
Leon Barr was born to John E. Barr and Bettie Maupin Sims-Barr circa 1920 in Shackelford, Missouri, the oldest of twelve children. It was around the time Babe Ruth was traded by the Red Sox for $100,000, the largest sum ever paid for a player at that time. Leon would be raised on the family farm with his four younger brothers and seven younger sisters. Leon and three of his brothers would serve in WWII, Leon at Fort Clinton, Perry, Ohio, where he took riot training. He would spend 1943 in North Africa and Italy, then would be transferred to Arizona, on to Camp Siebert, Alabama, then back to Ohio. It is unknown whether Leon would marry or have any children. ![]() ![]() ©Copyright Gary Barr Entertainment 2008. All Rights Reserved.
