Wayne Barr was born circa 1940 in Shackelford, Missouri, to Walter Barr and Mary Evelyn Cromley-Barr. He is the fourth generation Barr to have kept the Thomas J. Barr and Mary Grant-Barr farm in our family. His family raised livestock, cows, hogs, and chickens on the Barr farm, where he grew up with his brother and two sisters.

Wayne acknowledges a lot has changed in the technology of farming as he grew up, in particular, the farm equipment. According to the Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Marshall Democrat-News, article by Marcia Gorrell, Wayne expressed "We started out with (International) H and C tractors and two bottom plows. Now a four-wheel drive pickup probably could pull more than those did," he said, adding the tractors of yesterday were more "like lawn tractors now."

Wayne is President of the Saline County, Missouri Cattlemen's Association. He still raises corn and soybeans on the family farm but has since sold his cow herd. Wayne hopes to pass the farm on to relatives someday.
