Charles Bean Jr. was born in Winchester, Virginia on July 13th, 1946.
Cynthia Dowell was born November 22nd, 1952 in Hillsboro, Texas to the Reverend Fred Dowell and Elizabeth "Betty" Rosalie Dowell-Kochanowski. She grew up with two brothers and one sister in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and moved to Virginia, where she ultimately met and married Mr. Bean.
The two have four children.
