James "Jim" Fagan was born in 1933 St. Louis, Missouri.

Shirley J. Kochanowski was born in 1935 Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to Frank and Josephine Kochanowski. She has three sisters and two brothers.

The two live in the Kansas City area, and have two daughters, Stephanie and Valerie.

Stephanie pursued a career in publishing, while Valerie is an actress in New York.
