SENATOR JOHN "JACK" J. LARKIN JR. AND
IRENE DOUCHEY-LARKIN FAMILY


Larkin Lineage: John-John-Michael-Michael


John J. "Jack" Larkin Jr. was born to Senator John "Jack" Larkin, and Loretta Ryan-Larkin on July 27, 1922, in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in the community of St. Bridget's where, as a young man, he as a baseball player on the 1939 American Legion Championship Team. Jack attended Creighton University until he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He would serve as a medical corpsman in the South Pacific.

After the war, John was elected Douglas County, Nebraska Senator of Unicameral Legislature 8th District, following the footsteps of his father. Elected in 1948, he would serve three terms as a Senator. In 1949, he met and married his wife, Irene Grace Douchey. With his young family, Jack joined cousins in the growing city of Phoenix, Arizona, in 1956. Their third son would be born in 1958.

After twenty five years, Jack retired from the Arizona state purchasing agency. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his friends and other athletic pursuits. When asked to serve his community, Jack helped guide organizations including his favorite, St. Vincent De Paul. Jack enjoyed participating in the faith communities of St. Thomas the Apostle and St. Theresa's Catholic Church. His family remembers his "quiet leadership, warm smile, joyful laugh, strength, strong faith and welcoming spirit".
