Jacob Weis was born 10/25/1848 in North Vernon, Indiana, to John Weis (aka Joannis Wise), and Anna Marie Martin-Weis, from Alsace, Loraine, France, (both French citizens). It was the year of the California Gold Rush: James W. Marshall finds gold at Sutter's Mill, in Coloma, California.

Marie (Mary) Ursula Holdreith-Weis was born 11/15/1852 in North Vernon, Indiana, to Francis (aka Franz) Holdreith and Mary Magdalena Ursula Henry (Heinrich) Holdreith, from Germany. She grew up with her five brothers and two sisters.

Both families had immigrated to America, and settled in Jennings County, Indiana. Jacob and Mary had three sons and seven daughters, the youngest of which were twins. The first of their children, Lena and Margaret, had been born in Central City, Kentucky, prior to Jacob's purchase of a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Marshall, Missouri, Saline County.

Jacob Weis died 9/16/1940 in Marshall, Missouri. Mary Ursula Holdreith-Weis died 1/01/1901 in Marshall, Missouri.
